Anne Fine Author Visit

2019-02-26

On Tuesday 26th February we were lucky to be joined by the second Children’s Laureate and distinguished prize-winning writer for children, Anne Fine. Writer of Bill’s New Frock and Madame Doubtfire to name a few, Anne met with us to talk about the writing process. She showed us a really messy plan for one of her stories, demonstrating that lots of changes take place when writing a book. She also showed us some of the front cover designs for her books in different countries – they often didn’t show what the book was about at all!

Anne then told us about how she gets inspiration for her stories. The funniest story was about a boy who kept following her on her dog walks. He couldn’t stop talking about Tottenham Hotspur, much to her annoyance. The next week he came around and said that he was taking part in a sponsored silence. She was delighted – until she found out that he only lasted 11 seconds! This inspired her to write ‘Loudmouth Louis’. She taught us that ideas from stories can come from all sorts of places.

Anne told us all about her books and then signed them for us. It was great to meet such a well known author and to ask her questions. It was our favourite author visit ever!
