Sport

Glendower pupils of all ages are transformed, by the variety of sport and physical education (PE) on offer, into the most competent swimmers, skilful netball players, graceful gymnasts and powerful athletes. Very few pupils leave Glendower without a high level of competency – not to mention a competitive streak – in a specific area or areas of PE.  The majority of our games lessons take place off site and girls travel to venues by coach.

The PE department aims to promote enjoyment by encouraging the girls to be both active and interactive and to perform to the best of their ability no matter their level. Team sports particularly help pupils to gain an understanding of responsibility, the joy of shared achievement and the reward of working in a team.

Gymnastics and Games are taught from Reception to Year 6, with netball in the autumn and spring terms and rounders in the summer. Our Glendower U11 netball team is five times IAPS National Netball champions, proving that even without on-site facilities the girls reach very high standards.

Swimming starts in Year 2 and is taught once a week through to Year 6. Every girl leaves Glendower able to swim. Our swimming teams have won the IAPS National Swimming Championships at U10 and U11 age groups on numerous occasions, and have recently been crowned champions of the London Schools Swimming Association Championships. As with netball, the girls compete against other schools on a regular basis in tournaments and galas. All girls have the opportunity to compete in competitive matches against other schools.

All girls enjoy three PE lessons a week which include dance, gymnastics, netball and games as well as other sports such as football, unihoc, rounders and athletics.

All sports kits including swim caps should be ordered directly from Perry www.perryuniform.co.uk
