School Assemblies

Glendower places a good deal of importance in ensuring that the girls come together regularly to share their talents, perform as part of a group or learn something new from a visiting speaker.
Our assemblies are divided into the Upper School and Lower School and take place first thing in the morning.

Monday assemblies are usually given over to outside speakers. We regularly have talks from visitors of other faiths, helping girls to learn more about, for example, Christianity, Islam, Judaism or Hinduism. We have also had interesting talks from charities that the school is supporting – recent charities have included The Tree House School for children with Autism and the Bayswater Families Centre.

We hold music assemblies which are an opportunity for girls who are learning instruments (including the voice!) and all forms of dance to perform to the school. This is a wonderful occasion which enables the audience to appreciate the amount of hard work and practice that goes into learning an instrument.

Tuesdays and Thursdays are class assemblies, and each class provides an assembly performance each term. The girls love the opportunity to dress in costume and share their new knowledge with the rest of the school. Parents are invited to attend these assemblies.

The final assemblies of the week are the PSHE Assemblies on Friday for the Lower School and the Upper School; it is a chance to celebrate all the wonderful work achieved during the previous week. Certificates are awarded for effort, kindness, progress and attainment as well as for curricular and extra-curricular achievement.

We also hold a Harvest Festival Service in St Augustine’s Church towards the end of the first half of the Autumn Term to which parents are invited.

Each term ends with a special end of term assembly. At Christmas, the choir and the orchestra set the scene for the holidays with carols and hymns. We finish the Spring Term with an Easter Bonnet Parade with girls in the Lower School parading their homemade bonnets for the school. The final assembly in the Summer Term is our Prize-giving Assembly when we award cups and prizes for girls who have achieved outstanding success during the year.
