Pastoral Care
The children's pastoral care is an integral part of the duties of their form teacher. Parents are encouraged to discuss any problems, that the girls are unable to resolve themselves with their form teacher. If the problem persists, the form teacher and/or parent should speak to the Deputy Head or the Head of Lower School, dependent on the relevant age group.
GLENDOWER GOLDEN RULES
These rules are displayed throughout the school. All girls from Reception to Year 6 are expected to know them and act accordingly.
- Always treat everyone with respect
- Always be your best self
- Always be a good listener
- Always look after the school and everything in it
- Always move around the school safely and sensibly
THE GLENDOWER GOOD BEHAVIOUR GUIDE
This booklet is signed by pupil and parent, stating that they have read it together and agree to follow the code at all times.
We have a code of behaviour at Glendower because we want our school to be a safe, happy place for everyone, so that we can all do our best at work and play.
We can help everyone feel safe and happy by showing respect for one another.
This means:
- good manners
- having respect for teachers, our parents, and other adults
- being kind and considerate
- always telling the truth
We can help other children feel happy and safe at playtime if we:
- respect one another's property
- include everyone who wishes to join in our games
- invite anyone who seems alone to join in
- respect the rules of other children's games
- never tease, call people names or whisper behind their backs
- never use physical aggression of any sort
- play sensibly
- always tell an adult if a child is very unhappy or could be in danger
- don't talk to strangers
To keep safe indoors we should:
- Look where we are going
- always walk - especially on the stairs
- Stand aside for adults
- Open doors carefully
To try to sort out problems we should:
- be prepared to say "sorry"
- try to discuss the problem with someone else - a friend, teacher or parent
- walk away from trouble
- never start arguments
- if we still can't sort out the problem, talk to Mrs Bowman
We can all work at our best if we:
- are considerate
- take pride in what we do
- accept responsibility
If we do not keep to this code, we may have to:
- stay with a teacher during the play time
- sit quietly on our own
- write a letter of apology
- go to Mrs Bowman
- talk to Mrs Bowman with our parents
PREFECTS, FORM CAPTAINS AND VICE CAPTAINS
Each form elects a Form Captain and Vice Captain every half term. This gives different girls the opportunity to be responsible, reliable and sensible.
Every child in Year 6 is given a trial run as a prefect and then in the spring term permanent prefects are elected. Prefect meetings are held on a weekly basis and the prefects are constantly observing what is happening in the playground and at lunchtime. Any problems are discussed in the weekly meeting with the Deputy Head.
