Uniform

SCHOOL UNIFORM

The items marked * are available exclusively from the school uniform department on the third floor of Peter Jones, official suppliers of the Glendower school uniform. Where items are not exclusively stocked by Peter Jones (eg socks and shoes), the relevant department will be encouraged to stock them.

The summer uniform is usually worn from the first day of the Summer Term until the October half-term, depending on the weather. Thereafter the winter uniform is worn. Particular rules when coming into and going home from school are as follows:

  • The combination of clothes worn must include one, but only one, garment with the school crest (ie the hat and blazer should not be worn together whereas the hat must be worn with the school coat).
  • The hat may not be worn with the summer uniform.
  • The blazer may be worn with the tunic.
  • Every pupil must arrive at school in the morning and leave at the end of the day wearing school uniform.

ORDERING FROM PETER JONES

It is advisable to plan uniform requirements ahead, especially major items such as coats, blazers and tunics. During off-peak times, Peter Jones have a planned range of 2 in every size, so they will soon run out if they do not know your requirements and new stock will be 6 to 8 weeks delivery.

Parents with children already at the school who need to replace garments should therefore allow 6 to 8 weeks for delivery of a major item. This makes it inadvisable to wait until the October half term break before ordering a new winter coat. A Peter Jones representative will be invited to attend the Summer Term second hand uniform sale to discuss individual uniform requirements.

Families new to the school will have the uniform requirements explained to them at an orientation meeting held at the school in June before their child is due to start at school. A Peter Jones representative will be invited to the meeting to discuss individual uniform requirements.

LABELLING

Everything, including the belts of tunics and dresses, must be clearly labelled with woven labels bearing your daughter's name. The labels may be ordered from Peter Jones. Items unsuitable for a woven label such as shoes may have the name written in indelible ink.

LOST PROPERTY

There is a Lost and Found basket stationed at the side entrance. However, it is best to report any missing items to the Form teacher as soon as possible after their loss to assist you in your search. All items left in the lost property basket at the end of the year are given to charity.

SWIMMING

The following items are taken into school on the day the child has swimming. It is a good idea to use a damp-proof bag to transport wet swimming things. Swimming achievement badges may be stitched either to the costume or to the towel. Stitching it on to the costume often means the badges are thrown away when the child grows out of the costume.
