The LibraryThe LibraryThe Library is situated at the end of the school entrance hall and its resources are available to everyone at Glendower.Every class has a timetabled weekly slot where they have the opportunity to select new books to take home. Our non-fiction books cover both the subjects taught throughout the school, and leisure or outside interests. The fiction library is constantly updated with a continuous flow of new books. We encourage the children to read well loved classics and our library has a good selection of these. Children in the Upper School are required to keep a library log where they record the titles of books they have read and write comments about their favourites. The library (with the support of the Parents Association) hosts at least two author visits a year. One in the Autumn term for our Upper school and one in the Spring term for the Lower School. Recently we have enjoyed visits from award winning authors Geraldine McCaughrean and Linda Newbery. Other events include our annual bookfair held in November and World Book Day in March where the children love to dress up as their favourite book characters. The Library is open for several break times and one lunch time during the week. Librarians are chosen from Year 6 and these girls help and advise during opening times. The Librarians also devise activities to promote the library and reading. For the past few years "Murder in the Library" has been a popular promotional activity. We produce reading lists for all the children in the Upper School and you can find these on this website. |
