ICT
In our teaching with Information and Communication Technology, it is expected that all pupils will experience ICT regularly in the ICT suite, in the classroom and in the school in general. Basic computer skills will be acquired through the use of ICT as the girls progress through the structured scheme of work.
All computers are fully networked so that pupils have access to their files wherever they are working. There are interactive white-boards and computers available in every classroom.
As ICT is increasingly integrated into all areas of the curriculum, it is important to introduce girls as early as possible, so that they are able to use ICT skills where appropriate to support their learning.
From Year 1 Glendower girls have one dedicated Information and Communication Technology lesson per week in the ICT suite. The emphasis is on enjoyment, building basic skills and confidence. Learning to touch-type, researching under guidance on the World Wide Web or creating a picture with new, carefully selected software, are just a few of the many skills taught. ICT in the Lower School aims to be exciting, suitably challenging and rewarding for all.
In the Upper School the girls are taught further word-processing skills, desktop publishing, spreadsheet work, data handling and control. They are taught the rudiments of programming using Logo and work with multimedia and devices. They are taught on software such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Publisher.
Whether it is controlling a device built themselves, producing a multimedia presentation or monitoring sounds, Glendower girls are moving forward fast in ICT.
