Additional supportAdditional SupportIn the Lower School girls will receive additional support either by the sub-division of the group or by one-to-one support in the lesson from a teacher or teaching assistant. This varies from day to day and from activity to activity. In the Upper School we have core curriculum subject teachers who are timetabled to work alongside a colleague within the same department to offer additional support, usually in small groups or occasionally on a one-to-one basis. This is in addition to the differentiated work which is an integral component of all teachers' planning and which operates in every lesson. Additional Support may take the form of consolidation or extension work thus allowing each pupil to reach her potential. If, through our in-house tracking and monitoring systems, it emerges that a particular pupil is failing to make the progress which we would expect, then we may ask our Learning Support Coordinator to run some initial tests with a view to ascertaining whether or not there are indications that the girl has a different learning profile which needs to be catered for. This may involve a recommendation for the girl to be assessed by an educational psychologist so that the underlying causes for insufficient progress may be fully explored. If it is established that a girl shows dyslexic or dyspraxic tendencies then a programme will be devised to support her learning through an individual educational plan. |
