Early Years Foundation StageThe Early Years Foundation StageOur Reception classes offer a wonderful start to life at Glendower. Our class numbers are deliberately kept to a maximum of 18 and each of the two classes has a qualified teacher and a qualified nursery nurse who work together to deliver the Early Years Foundation Stage: Communication, Language and Literacy, Mathematical Development, Knowledge and Understanding of the World, Creative Development, Personal, Social and Emotional Development and Physical Development. Certain subject areas, such as French, music and drama are taught by specialist teachers who are able to provide a high level of expertise. We feel that our Reception classes provide a very important role in creating a sense of enthusiasm and wonder for the new experiences the girls will meet each day. It is hoped that this attitude will stay with them throughout their time at Glendower and will ensure that their educational experiences are always positive. The girls' days are filled with a huge range of experiences from learning to read and write to making models and exploring their local environment. They come into school each day with smiles on their faces and leave at the end of the day tired but with a real sense of achievement. It is in our Reception classes that the girls start to learn the social skills they will need throughout their time at Glendower and beyond. A great deal of emphasis is placed on encouraging girls to form friendships, interact with their peers and with adults. They are also encouraged to take responsibility for organizing themselves and working as part of a team. Overall, our Reception Classes are seen as the ideal environment to develop a love of learning, a desire to explore and a sense of belonging to the Glendower Community. |
